Referrals

Referrals for evaluation come from many different sources, including mental health professionals, physicians, Worker's Compensation, insurance companies, and attorneys. When referred primarily for treatment purposes, the focus is on describing the deficits so that not only is effective treatment initiated, but recommendations regarding improving daily functioning, whether at home, work, or school, also can be made. 

When referred for legal purposes, the goal is to answer the legal question being asked in an unbiased manner. Thus, whether one is seeking an evaluation for a civil or criminal case, and for the plaintiff/prosecution or defense, formulation is supported by objective data. Assessment of effort and validity always is part of legal and disability determinations.  As necessary, Dr. Askenazi gives depositions and provides testimony for the retaining party. Particular attention is given to historical and recent relevant legal statutes and judicial holdings.
